Folk Music of Bangladesh for SSC HSC

Folk music is one type of music that belongs to a community or a religion, or team. It is not influenced by any sophisticated music rules or by any standard music styles. Both religious and secular songs are included in folk music. Folk songs can be sung individually or in a chorus. Folk music is originated in the third century BC. In Bangladesh, folk music has a great variety. Poets who composed folk music are basically from the rural area and the theme of the songs are related to the desires, dreams, and lifestyle of rural people. Folk songs of Bangladesh are influenced by the different regions and formed in different types. Some basic types of folk songs in Bangladesh are Lalongiti, Jari, Sari, Palagan, Palligiti, Baul, Murshidi, Bhatiali, Gambhira, Bhawaiya, and so on. These songs are performed with some traditional musical instruments, such as Ektara, Dotara, Dhol, Sitar, Bashi, Tabla, Madol, Sarinda, etc. Talented singers and composers of folk songs have made folk music more famous to the people of Bangladesh. Lalon Shah, Shah Abdul Karim, Hasan Raja, Fakir Alamgir, Abbas Uddin, Kuddus Boyati, Radha Roman, etc singers, and composers are famous for making the history of Bangladeshi folk music popular. Folk music is important for the general people of our country because this music form is close to our tradition and history. Folk songs are famous among the village people, farmers, fishermen, day labourers, and rickshaw pullers. Often these songs are called “Matir Gaan”. Nowadays, foreign music forms are taking place over the folk songs and influencing young people. We should not neglect our own ancient culture and preserve these songs by practicing. The government should also come forward to retain and preserve these cultures and traditions. As the folk music of Bangladesh is related to our history and culture, we should all work together to preserve this.

Folk music is mainly based on a specific community, country or team. There are several types of folk music. Baul songs are really interesting and one of the top folk music genre in Bangladesh. People of Bangladesh and India loves Baul songs. There were lots of songs writer, who has written and gave music to enormous songs that we listen often.

Lalon Shah is one of the most popular Baul song creators in the history of Bangladesh and India. People are learning and doing research about his work. Lalon was a secular person and he has said these in his songs. His followers have made a totally different religion, which is pretty much different than Islam and Hinduism.

Not only Baul songs, but they’re also are Bhatiyali and Bhawaiya songs these are really popular. Bhatiyali is actually songs from the boatmen, who drive a boat and sing-song. These songs are really interesting.

Personally, I am a music lover and I love hearing folk music. When I started to listen to songs, I was in love with ‘Bengali Folk Songs’. There is a huge collection of these songs these are related to our tradition.
