Vladimir Putin Russia Ukraine war: Every minute 55 Ukrainian children are refugees

The number of people fleeing Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression has exceeded 3 million. About half of them are children. The United Nations has expressed concern that these children, who are homeless due to the war, are at serious risk of being trafficked and sexually harassed. News AFP.

Paul Dillon, spokesman for the United Nations International Organization for Migration (IOM), told reporters in Geneva on Tuesday (March 15th) that the number of people fleeing Ukraine had crossed the 3 million milestones.

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) says at least 1.4 million children are among the Ukrainian refugees. Of these, 1 lakh 56 thousand children are citizens of third countries.

UNICEF spokesman James Elder said an average of 60,000 children had been displaced daily in Ukraine over the past 20 days. Which means there are about 55 refugees per minute and one child per second? The UNICEF official warned that these children, who are homeless due to the conflict, are at high risk of separation from their families, violence, sexual harassment and trafficking. They need to be protected on an emergency basis.

The number of Ukrainian refugees has not yet been updated on the website of the UN refugee agency UNHCR. According to their latest figures, the number of people fleeing Ukraine is 2.95 million. Of these, 1.7 million have taken refuge in neighboring Poland.

Four and a half million Ukrainians have gone to Romania, about three and a half million to Moldova, about 275,000 to Hungary and more than two million to Slovakia. In addition, more than 140,000 Ukrainian refugees have entered Russia and about 1,500 in Belarus.
