মালয়েশিয়ায় বিদেশি শ্রমিকদের মধ্যে বাংলাদেশিরা শীর্ষে – মালয়েশিয়ায় বৈধভাবে কর্মরত বিদেশি শ্রমিকদের মধ্যে বাংলাদেশিদের সংখ্যা সবচেয়ে বেশি। দেশটির মোট বৈধ বিদেশি শ্রমশক্তির ৩৭ শতাংশই বাংলাদেশি, যা সংখ্যায় ৮ লাখেরও বেশি।
সোমবার (২৫ আগস্ট) মালয়েশিয়ার পার্লামেন্টে এক প্রশ্নের জবাবে স্বরাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয় এ তথ্য জানায়। এরপর মঙ্গলবার স্থানীয় পত্রিকা দ্য স্টার এই তথ্য প্রকাশ করে।
মালয়েশিয়ার ইমিগ্রেশন বিভাগের তথ্য অনুযায়ী, চলতি বছরের জুন পর্যন্ত দেশটিতে ৮ লাখ ৩ হাজার ৩৩২ জন বাংলাদেশি অস্থায়ী ওয়ার্ক পারমিটের মাধ্যমে কর্মরত রয়েছেন। এদের বেশিরভাগই কাজ করছেন স্বল্পদক্ষ খাতে—যেমন নির্মাণ, কৃষি, এবং সেবা খাত।
২০২২ সালে করোনার ধাক্কা কাটিয়ে শ্রমবাজার পুনরায় চালু হলে, ওই বছর মালয়েশিয়ায় যান ৪৯ হাজার ৩৫৩ জন বাংলাদেশি। এরপর ২০২৩ সালে বিদেশি কর্মী নিয়োগ নীতিমালায় শিথিলতা আনা হলে আরও ৩ লাখ ৯৭ হাজার ৫৪৮ জন বাংলাদেশি সেখানে যান কাজের উদ্দেশ্যে।
তবে আশাব্যঞ্জক এই চিত্রের মাঝেও কিছু চ্যালেঞ্জ রয়েছে। ২০২২ সালে ২০ হাজার ৩৩১ জন এবং ২০২৩ সালে ২৩ হাজার ৬৫ জন বাংলাদেশি শ্রমিককে ফেরত পাঠানো হয়েছে। তাদের অনেকেই চুক্তির মেয়াদ শেষে বা বিভিন্ন আইনি ও কর্মসংস্থান সংক্রান্ত জটিলতায় পড়েন।
এছাড়াও, ওয়ার্ক পারমিটের মেয়াদ শেষে অবৈধভাবে অবস্থান করায় ৭৯০ জন বাংলাদেশিকে আটক করা হয়েছে বলেও জানায় মালয়েশিয়ার স্বরাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়।
Bangladeshis Make Up 37% of Malaysia’s Foreign Workforce
Over 800,000 Bangladeshi nationals are currently working legally in Malaysia, making them the largest group among the country’s foreign labor force—accounting for 37% of all foreign workers.
This information was disclosed by Malaysia’s Ministry of Home Affairs in response to a parliamentary question from MP Hassan Karim on Monday, August 25. The data was later reported by The Star on Tuesday.
According to the Immigration Department of Malaysia, as of June this year, 803,332 Bangladeshis are working under temporary work permits. Most of them are employed in low-skilled sectors such as construction, agriculture, and services.
Following the reopening of Malaysia’s labor market in 2022, after the COVID-19 pandemic, 49,353 Bangladeshis entered the country for employment. In 2023, after Malaysia eased restrictions on foreign worker recruitment, another 397,548 Bangladeshi workers arrived.
However, the situation is not without concerns. In 2022, a total of 20,331 Bangladeshi workers were deported, followed by 23,065 more in 2023. Many were sent back due to contract completion or various legal and employment complications.
Additionally, the ministry reported that 790 Bangladeshi nationals have been detained for overstaying after their work permits expired.
